SNCF Receives Gold Mobile Star Award from MobileVillage Dublin, Ireland, October 24, 2005 - MobileAware today announced that the top award for a mobile travel solution in the annual Mobile Star Awards was won by French national railway, SNCF, a MobileAware customer. The award was won for a mobile customer self-service solution, known as Infogare, which allows SNCF passengers in Paris and the greater Ile de France region to access real-time train schedules using any mobile device. The solution, which is the first official WAP and i-mode service from SNCF, provides information on arrival and departures, train platforms and travel interruptions for 171 regional railway stations, with the remaining stations to be added by December 2005. SNCF already operates a highly successful online travel information portal, which provides rail users with a host of travel information via a PC. Recognizing that PC-based information offers limited benefits to passengers on the move, SNCF sought to enhance their passengers’ travel experience by making real-time travel information accessible from any mobile device. MobileAware’s Mobile Interaction Server (MIS) was selected by SNCF to extend their existing BEA web applications. MIS seamlessly extends enterprise applications, portals and web services allowing them to be accessed by any mobile device at any time. The Infogare solution, which was developed and deployed in less than two months, consists of a BEA WebLogic Server on which mobilized web applications interact with back-end scheduling systems to retrieve and deliver live information to mobile devices. Infogare mobile content is created using the same developer tools that are used for creating web content, with MobileAware technology providing the mobility extensions. “We are delighted with the excellent success of SNCF in this year’s Mobile Star Awards,” commented Kevin McCloskey, CEO at MobileAware. “The SNCF solution not only proves how quickly mobile services can be up and running using MobileAware technology, it is also reaffirms the willingness of organizations to extend existing web applications to mobile users, instead of deploying a separate mobile platform. MobileAware is the only mobile software provider capable of empowering organizations to achieve this goal and we are especially pleased to see the benefits of such an approach being honored by the mobile industry.” “The Mobile Star Awards program gets bigger every year,” commented MobileVillage Editor Gary Thayer. “This year we saw over 100 entries in 60 categories, and nearly 800 people took the time to cast votes. The Mobile Star Awards are unique in that the judges are Go Mobile readers – these people have a great knowledge of the industry and eager to tell the world which mobile products deserve recognition.” The Mobile Star Awards from MobileVillage, a leading market development company and news service dedicated to enterprise mobile technology, honor the best companies, products, deployments and leaders in wireless technology. Winners are chosen by subscribers to Go Mobile, MobileVillage's free online newsletter sent to technology executives, buyers, IT managers, developers and top technology journalists.
