Telstra’s live coverage of the 2006 Commonwealth Games (M2006) was shortlisted in the category of ‘Best Made for Mobile Infotainment Service for Sports & News Content,’ which honors organizations that provided the most compelling entertainment experience for mobile users in 2006. Telstra’s M2006 coverage provided a range of exclusive content including news, results, real-time medal tally, text message alerts, maps and event schedules and also enabled 3G customers to view up to 8 concurrent live video streams from major sports venues not available on any other mobile, Internet or TV platform. MobileAware’s Mobile Interaction Server provided the content rendering and device recognition technology to deliver device-tailored M2006 content to Telstra’s 2G, and 3G mobile devices. Telstra’s M2006 mobile services delivered the first truly interactive customer experience for Commonwealth Games coverage. Live content included:
Customers on Telstra's 2G and 3G mobile services also had access to a range of exclusive content including news, results, real-time medal tally, text message alerts, maps, event schedules as well as ringtones, java games and wallpaper downloads. Customers clearly valued the M2006 mobile content services. During the Commonwealth Games period, Telstra 3G data increased by 42%, 3G ARPU increased by 39% and streamed minutes increased more than four times. “With declining growth in voice revenues for operators globally and the threat posed by near-free IP-based telephony services, mobile operators are betting future growth on data services such as mobile Internet, games, music and even TV programmes on mobiles,” commented Kevin McCloskey, CEO at MobileAware. “Telstra’s M2006 mobile services are yet another example of how Telstra is outperforming all other global operators in the delivery of feature-rich mobile data services, that are clearly popular with subscribers. We are proud of our longterm association with Telstra and will continue to provide the technology and expertise to ensure their cutting-edge mobile services are easily accessible and optimally presented on Telstra’s growing number of mobile devices.” The 12th annual GSM Association Global Awards programme is the leading showcase for the world’s mobile industry and will culminate in a gala dinner and presentation at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona on 13 February 2007.
